Meet Chris Connolly

Name: Chris Connolly

Title: Vice President – Business Development

Company: The Logit Group

Current City: Lafayette, CO

Hometown: Gig Harbor, WA

Years in the market research industry: 23 years (wow, has it been that long?!?!?!)

What duties does your current job position include? I connect researchers and pollsters with The Logit Group’s top-notch research field solutions with a specific focus on building our footprint with clients in the southern and western US.

What’s the best aspect of your current job position? Daily, I have the opportunity to make new connections with smart and compelling professionals. I love how the MR industry is home to such a diverse array of collaborative thinkers and doers. I work closely with an innovative and able team that is always pushing to deliver on commitments and stay ahead of the curve on industry trends. I have been at this a long time, but every day I still learn something new.

…and the worst (if there is one)? I work remotely, so I miss the unofficial person-to-person interactions that come with being in an office environment. (….not that I envy anyone’s commute.)

What do you see coming in the market research industry during the next five years? I see continuation of the trend towards market research AI. In the short-term, this will continue to diminish the value some end-clients assign to the wisdom and expertise brought to the table by trained and experienced research professionals. Although, as time passes, I believe this will balance out. I firmly believe that the best research will always require a healthy dose of human intuition and artistry.

How did you first come to work in market research? I started with a temporary position as a telephone interviewer. I soon was asked to move to data processing and thus, my fantastic journey in market research had begun. It has been a fun ride.

What led to you to joining the Insights Association? My first Insights Association (formerly MRA) event was in 2005. I have always found the Insights Association a great resource for networking, education, and keeping abreast of industry trends. I also have a great appreciation for the industry advocacy work done by Howard Fienberg and the Insights Association legal team.

To what other professional organizations do you belong? AAPOR (American Association of Public Opinion Research)

Where else have you worked in the past – including non-MR positions? Long ago, I worked in retail and even did some construction work. Within MR, I started at Quantum Research in Boulder, CO. The company later changed ownership and was renamed Aspen Media & Market Research. Over my 20+ years at Aspen, I held a myriad of positions, both back office and client facing. As time passed, I eventually worked into leadership roles, first, heading their programming department, then later, leading their client services group.

What do you do in your spare time – hobbies or activities? My wife and I have 2 young children who we love to spend my time with doing “little kid” stuff, like taking them to any number of different lessons, playing games, singing songs, and working on creative projects. Also, I am a pretty avid amateur musician. I play guitar solo and in several bands and perform regularly. And, of course, being a long time Colorado resident, I love to get outdoors and take advantage of our beautiful mountains snowboarding and hiking.

Do you have any unusual talents? Not that I am yet aware of.
What would others be surprised to know about you? Our family has 4 generations living essentially in one ‘compound’ – Grandma and Great Grandma live right next door. I am so happy our kids have such a close connection with them.

Favorite book or movie? My favorite book is The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh.

What is your ideal vacation? Road trips that combine escaping to great new outdoor locations with performing music (alone and with friends) for fun and interesting people. Fortunately, in Colorado, I am blessed to find these opportunities frequently!

Final comment or quotable: Life is good!
