Meet Abigail Hollister

Name: Abigail Hollister

Title: President

Company: Ameritest

Current City: Albuquerque, NM

Hometown: Albuquerque, NM

Years in the market research industry: 15

What duties does your current job position include? As President I lead our company strategy and Action Plans while overseeing team and client development. I also work on solution innovation and partnerships to help keep our company at the forefront of the industry and better meet our clients needs.

What’s the best aspect of your current job position? I love working with a team. Whether that team be a client partner or internal team, team development is something I find highly rewarding.

What do you see coming in the market research industry during the next five years? I think automation is going to continue helping our industry make great strides. There is such an overload of data that so much time is spent trying to manipulate, but we often don’t get to bring enough meaning to it at the speeds business requires. With more automation, my hope is that it allows the industry to focus on what it should be best at doing, taking data, bringing meaning to it, making it easier to understand, share-out and inform decisions at all levels of organizations.

How did you first come to work in market research? While it was an unexpected career path, as I wasn’t planning on going into research at all, I began my career in Chicago at Catalina Marketing Research Solutions. It gave me an incredible opportunity to learn custom research from all aspects which gave me the strong foundation I still draw upon today.

What led to you to joining the Insights Association? As a relatively small industry that business is so reliant upon, I think it’s important for everyone within it to work together to keep growing talent and to cultivate relationships within MR to help keep it driving forward.

What is your educational background? My background is in Marketing and Psychology. I originally wanted to go much deeper into psychology but didn’t want to go into the clinical side, so shifted to marketing. Turns out I managed to find a way to keep a focus on human behavior through that path.

Where else have you worked in the past – including non¬‐MR positions? I worked for the City of Albuquerque and shortly in the restaurant industry. I think this gave me some perspective on business and people at all levels within other types of organizations. However, my jobs that have contributed to my career in MR have been at Catalina, Millward Brown and Ameritest.

What do you do in your spare time – hobbies or activities? Much of my spare time is spent with my family. My husband Sean and I have two children, 10 and 12, with whom we spend much time supporting in their activities playing soccer, swimming and doing music. When we’re able to escape the everyday, we try to travel as much as we are able to explore the world and share these experiences with our kids.

Favorite sports team? The Miami Dolphins…it’s been a good lesson in patience

Do you have any unusual talents? Nothing I find that unusual!

What would others be surprised to know about you? I love music. Not just listening but playing when I can, which isn’t that often anymore, but I grew up playing many instruments including violin, clarinet, alto saxophone, french horn and piano.

Favorite book or movie? The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. When I have time to read I like an escape, something that shifts point of view from my everyday life, and what a better way to experience the world than through the eyes of Enzo, a dog.

What is your ideal vacation? The beach. We love to explore the world as a family and love the ocean. Our kids are getting dive certified this year so we can spend time together scuba diving on our next vacation

What is your favorite quote? Do what you love. Do it in the most adventurous way. Make sure it helps people.
