Student Reflections on Vegas

Ayla Fedor

As a student interested in being a marketing research professional upon graduation, the Insights Association put together a great preview into that world. I was able to learn about the MR industry from the perspective of companies like ad agencies to highly specialized sample companies. I connected with professionals working in companies ranging from small-name suppliers to large-name clients. Most memorably, I was approached and fed invaluable first-hand information and experiences from some very successful people who had my future and my best interest in mind. I was humbled by the opportunity to attend and am grateful for the things I’ve learned.

In January of this year, Dr. Scott Hanson (Program Director for UT-Arlington’s Marketing Research Masters) approached myself and Ayla about attending the Insights Conference in Vegas. Both of us were delighted to get the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the world of Marketing Research. Because we are both still students, we were excited for the chance to meet industry professionals, including those on the client and supplier side, of whom we do not normally get the chance to interact with.
Notably, during the conference, I was able to hear from Jessica Wong whom I learned about the successes and challenges that come with streaming apps. Also, both Thomas Roth and David Paisley from Community Marketing Insights provided insights into the LGBTQ community that we don’t normally hear inside the classroom. Understanding the nuances of different communities is very important in Marketing Research and I am glad we I had the opportunity to hear CMI speak. Overall, the conference was an amazing experience and I hope to be back next year!
